Who uses heavy armor in GW2? ›

Heavy armor is used by the Guardian and Warrior professions.

Cleric, Fighter, & Paladin classes all receive Heavy Armor Proficiency as a Class Feat at level 1.

Heavy Armor. Of all the armor categories, heavy armor offers the best protection. These suits of armor cover the entire body and are designed to stop a wide range of attacks. Only proficient warriors can manage their weight and bulk.

Heavy armor is just like a lot of the other skills, in that simply using them isn't enough to raise the skill level, and it's the amount of damage you deal or take that determines how quickly it rises. Hitting or getting hit harder is going to raise skills faster then letting weak enemies slap at you for a long time.

While barbarians do not receive armor proficiency (heavy), they do not lose any abilities or receive any penalties if they do take the feat and wear heavy armor. Barbarians are capable of capping the magic bonus to constitution and strength without any items, as mighty rage (+8) and greater rage (+6) stack.

Is there a way to "train" karlach wearing heavy armor? or do i just stick with barbarian and give her that sweet aditional bloodrush spot? Yes, a feat will give her heavy armor proficiency.

You'll have to take a feat for that. None of the races give it, and you don't get it from multiclassing. You could start out as a Fighter or something that have heavy armor and then take Bard later.

Alternatively, a popular Bard build is to start as a Paladin for, say, 2 levels, then go Bard. In addition to the Heavy Armor, that also gets you Smite, some spell slots, full Martial weapons.

Medium Armor + Second Skin (no dodge penalty for medium armor) is the best choice for a character that is going to have very high dodge, such as one focusing Agility. Heavy Armor is a better choice for characters that will have a low dodge anyway.

To level up the Heavy Armor skill most efficiently, wear a full set of Heavy Armor (head, hands, feet, chest). The rate of skill gain is based on the total amount of damage incoming before armor is applied.

To clarify, light is better in most cases because it provides 50% stamina regeneration. If you have smithing, light armor will hit the armor cap. The only reason to go heavy is for the looks, punching damage, or if you constantly die from falling off cliffs.

How does the weight of equipment affect a soldier's performance in battle? The heavier the weight, the more drain on their strength, stamina and speed.

There is an explicit penalty for sneaking in heavy armor, as the weight of worn armor contributes to noise while sneaking.
